Fast growing visitors industry The visitors industry is one of the most important industries in the Stockholm region. The total travel and tourist industry generates employment at almost 62,000 annual jobs, the annual turnover being around SEK 55 billion. 75 % of the turnover is from tourists booked through travel agents or airlines. There are around 200 hotels with approximately 30,000 beds in Greater Stockholm. Over half of the hotel capacity is in Stockholm, mainly in the city centre. The number of overnight stays is almost 7 million in the region, approximately 60 % of which are in the city. About 40 % of hotel visitors come from abroad, primarily USA, Germany and the United Kingdom. Seven of ten are business travellers or participants in congresses or conferences. Stockholm has become increasingly popular as a conference city, not least because of the access to conference premises with top quality equipment. Most of Stockholm's over 100 hotels are adapted for conferences. In addition, there is the Globe Arena, which is one of Europe's largest conference venues, and Stockholm International Fairs.
