This is Stockholm Information Service Stockholm Information Service (SIS) is a foundation formed by the City of Stockholm and the Stockholm County Council. SIS is responsible for the overall strategy and profile. The operational targets are: 8.2 million commercial guest-nights in the year 2000. A long-term increase of 45 50 per cent in the number of overnight stays by non-Swedes An increase in visitors to Stockholm during the low season Facts about SIS and tourism in Stockholm For the ninth consecutive year, the number of commercial guest-nights in Stockholm increased. The new record level for 1999 is 6.3 million. And Stockholm is now the foremost tourist city in the Nordic region. The increase in guest-nights since 1992 is 80 percent. PR, Press & Information At SIS, we have renewed our emphasis on PR, press and information, and we have placed all of these services under single new department, the Media Center. One of our new initiatives is to develop a state-of-the-art Internet tourist information service. Our goal is to provide tourists and Stockholmers alike with information that is updated every day. New services include an SKi-based event database, direct on-line hotel and event reservations, and multilingual support, including versions of our Web site in Finnish, English, German and Spanish. The introduction of these services signals a long-term, strategically important new direction for marketing Stockholm on the Internet. Marketing Stockholm internationally requires support services for agencies that deal in international travel to Stockholm. A concerted effort is also required to create a greater selection of products for which reservations can be made, and to increase demand for these productsespecially during the period from October to March. Marketing Marketing efforts concentrated primarily on promoting interest among individuals in travelling to Stockholm, particularly during the low and intermediate seasons. The focus is on air travel. Congress Stockholm Work focuses primarily on identifying and assisting potential arrangers of international and Swedish congresses to the region. The primary target group consists of scientific associations, industry and interest organisations, municipal and state authorities and research-oriented enterprise. Stockholm is now among the top ten congress cities in the world. Our ambition is also to increase the number of congresses by 50 per cent by the year 2010. Events SIS endeavours to support and develop new events together with cultural institutions, sports events and a number of different arrangers who require support in the form of marketing or tips and ideas for new events. Tourist Information Stockholm Information Service runs authorised tourist information Offices. The tourist information offices have a total of 1.4 million visitors every year and over 130,000 guest-nights at hotels and Hostels are booked mainly via the central hotel booking agency. Regional Market Work on the regional market is designed to stimulate local tourism and to develop the range of tourist attractions in the region. The new rail service around Lake Mlaren, which began in 1997, has extended Stockholms local market to cover large areas of the Lake Mlaren region. |
