Parking in Stockholm

Finding a parking space in downtown Stockholm isn't always easy. Bearing in mind that walking distances are short and public transport is first-rate, all visitors are recommended to leave their car at one of the city's many car parks.

Parking is prohibited in the inner city on certain nights when the streets need to be free of vehicles for cleaning or snowploughs.

The degree of difficulty in finding a free parking space varies from district to district, although there are lots of big outdoor car parks. Multi-storey car parks are easy to find in the city centre and charge a reasonable evening fee (25 kr all evening). An increasing number of ticket dispensing machines accept charge cards and cash cards, and the new payment system enables you to pay afterwards for the time you have actually parked.

Long-stay parking

Long-stay parking
For those of you who need to park for a longer period, you can leave the car at the Silja Line or Viking Line ferry terminals. At Ropsten (Glasverksvgen/Ropstensslingan) you can buy a monthly ticket for 125 kr. Please note, however, that these places do not have twenty-four hour security.
There are other long-stay parking spaces adjoining the airports. The Stockholm Card (link to Stockholm Card) includes a parking voucher which is valid for all of Stockholm City's (Stockholm Stads) street parking meters in the inner city.
