Stockholm inspires

Stockholm is an exciting city that appeals to just about everyones interests. Theres something to day 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Come along on a tour of Stockholms antiquities and art. Stockholmers enjoy mixing the old with the new, and Stockholm is home to a great many antiquities.

The architectural history of Stockholm is impressive. Old buildings are well preserved, since the city was spared destruction during the World Wars. The oldest part of Stockholm, Gamla Stan, has roots reaching back to the 13th century, but is not far away from Hammarby Sjstad, known for its modern-looking buildings from the 1990s.

Stockholm is a great city for children, for example. Children can be taken everywhere in the city. Lots of restaurants, museums and departments stores are equipped with ramps for strollers, childrens menus and changing rooms. The range of activities for children of all ages is especially impressive during school vacations and on weekends.

Why now learn something about Alfred Nobel and the Nobel Prize, which has made Stockholm famous throughout the world. A temporary Nobel Museum is set up in the Old Stock Exchange in Gamla Stan (Old Town).

The Swedish royal family is active and outgoing. For example, the Stockholm Royal Palace is one of the few palaces in the world that is both open to visitors and serves as an office for Swedish King Carl XVI Gustav and Crown Princess Victoria. Whats more, another 10 royal palaces in the Mlardalen region are open to the public.

Stockholmers love their metropolis and its green oases. City parks such as Kungstrdgrden and Rlamhovsparken draw just as many people to relax, play and enjoy picnics as does the Hagaparken located outside the city.

Stockholm is becoming increasingly important as a center for Swedish design. The Swedish style is known for its clean lines, light colors and natural materials. Many museums display truly stunning works, and Stockholms shopping districts are great places to hunt for terrific finds.

Swedens Viking heritage and ancient festivals and celebrations paint a fascinating picture of life in Stockholm in earlier times.
