Childrens Stockholm

High chairs in restaurants, ramps for prams in the Stockholm underground and rooms for eating packed lunches in museum are virtually taken for granted in Stockholm. The city and its surrounding areas are both fun and convenient to visit with the children.

Theres plenty of room for running around and adventure with its broad pavements, green parks and location right on the water, Stockholm is a great place for running, jumping and discovering. You can leave the car at home, as virtually all Stockholms attractions can be reached via the underground and buses. StorStockholmsLokaltrafik (SL) is in charge of local public transport and operates underground trains, buses and commuter trains covering the entire County of Stockholm. Children under 7 always ride free when accompanied by and adult. On weekends, from 12:00 Friday through Sunday, a single paying adult can bring along up to 6 children under 12 at no extra cost. Pram ramps and lifts make it easy for the entire family to reach the platform, and the citys modern buses allow for entering and exiting right down at street level, to make it easy to take a pram along on the bus. Both adults and children in prams can also ride the bus for free. Sailing to the attractions on Djurgrden and Skeppsholmen with the Djurgrd ferry while enjoying the beauty of Stockholm from the water brings out the sailor in people of all ages. It is just as easy to find seating for the whole family at a restaurant in the city centre as it is to make your way around the city using public transport and ferries. High chairs, childrens menus and help warming baby food is often included in the service. In addition, many of Stockholms museums and attractions feature playrooms and rooms where packed lunches can be eaten, if having fun making a bit of noise or enjoying a picnic is on the days itinerary.

This page contains tips for families with children. Information for the current month is included in the event calendar What's On which you can find at tourist offices. Useful addresses and opening hours can also be found there. Many museums have special exhibitions for children and special activities at weekends and during school holidays. You may also find newspapers' event calendars useful.
