Activities Sightseeing Archipelago Lake Mälaren Roslagen Södertörn |
Södertörn Södertörn is the name of the large peninsula south of Stockholm. The Sorunda area of Södertorn is a long-settled district, with place names, villages and farms which date back as far as 2,000 years. The parishes of Ösmo and Sorunda, alone, have yielded 7,500 ancient remains and monuments. The virgin forest at Tyresta may not be as old, but are interesting enough, botanical speaking, to have been declared a national park. There are many trails from Tyresta Village into the woods. The childrens undisputed favourite, is the saga path where so many of the stories of childhood come alive.
The southern part of Södertörn juts out into the open sea, without any archipelago in its way.
The harbour city of Nynäshamn extends a warm welcome to holiday yachtsmen, as well as large
ships from foreign ports. Or use Nynäshamn as a starting point in your exploration of the
southern part of the Stockholm archipelago. There are plenty of scheduled ferries to choose
from. Dont miss the harbour restaurants and the fishermens shacks offering the very freshest
fish. The tourist information centre is located at the railway station, near the harbour. Lida Park located next at Lake Getaren in Botkyrka Township is another popular destination to families with children. The Park offers swimming, fishing, boat rental, and even water-skiing. During one week each summer, the park is filled with young people, tents and music. This relatively recent pop music festival is now well known, attracting world class performers including Bob Dylan and Nick Cage. |
