![]() Stockholm by night
Stockholm is Sweden's entertainment centre and "night life" begins
already in the afternoon when a lot of restaurants and pubs are filled
by Stockholmers who wish to relax together for a while after work.
The area with most pubs is Södermalm. Götgatan, a
street sloping down towards Slussen, is a popular starting point for a
pub crawl. There are a number of pubs and restaurants along
Skånegatan frequented by Stockholm's fashionable crowd. Lots of
popular pubs can also be found on Kungsholmen around Kungsholms Torg,
and in Vasastaden. City centre bars and discotheques are to be found in
the area around Kungsträdgården, Stureplan, Birger
Jarlsgatan, and Berzelii Park. The discotheques have an international
style with a mostly young audience. Those wanting to dance have a number
of places to choose from, the largest being Aladdin on Barnhusgatan,
where orchestras play typical Swedish dance band music.
Stockholm has a lot to offer those who want to listen to live music.
Two popular jazz clubs are Stampen in the Old Town and Fasching on
Kungsgatan, and there are troubadours and live music at a number of pubs
several evenings a week. Some larger places of entertainment, such as
Börsen and Bern's, have shows and performances by
leading Swedish and sometimes international artists. |
